Horror as Light Plane Crashes in Parwan, Victoria

Emergency services are responding to a tragic aircraft crash that occurred on Aerodrome Road, Parwan, in Victoria’s western region. The crash, involving a light aircraft, has raised grave concerns for those on board. The incident happened at approximately 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday at an airfield near Bacchus Marsh, located 50 kilometers northwest of Melbourne.

Police, firefighters, paramedics, and State Emergency Service (SES) crews quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. However, the exact cause of the crash remains unknown at this time, and investigations are ongoing.

The crash took place at Bacchus Marsh Aerodrome, which is home to a gliding club and flying school. The aerodrome, owned by Moorabool Shire Council and operated by Bacchus Marsh Aerodrome Management, has been notified of the incident. Derek Madden, the Chief Executive of Moorabool Shire Council, expressed deep concern about the crash. “While investigations are continuing, we can’t make any further comment, but our thoughts are with all involved,” he said.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has launched a full transport safety investigation into the crash, which involved a Cessna 150 light aircraft. According to a spokesperson from ATSB, the plane crashed shortly after taking off from Bacchus Marsh, descending and colliding with terrain in a paddock near the airport.

ATSB is deploying a team of investigators from Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, and Sydney, all of whom specialize in aircraft maintenance and operations. These investigators will collect evidence from the crash site, examine the wreckage, map the area using drones, and recover aircraft components to be analyzed at ATSB’s facilities in Canberra. They are also seeking information from witnesses and will review recorded flight tracking data, pilot and maintenance records, and weather conditions at the time of the crash.

Authorities have closed off access to the Bacchus Marsh Aerodrome, with both Aerodrome Road and Skylark Way blocked as investigations continue. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and ATSB are both involved in the inquiry, but further details will only be released when appropriate.

This devastating incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, and many await updates on the circumstances and the fate of those on board the ill-fated flight.
