Hirushi Jayasena: A Multifaceted Sri Lankan Artist Making Waves in South Asia

Early Life

Hirushi Jayasena, a prominent figure in the South Asian entertainment scene, was born in Southend-On-Sea, United Kingdom. Raised in Colombo, Sri Lanka, she pursued her higher education in the United States, graduating with a Bachelor’s in Sciences from the University of Central Florida. She further enriched her academic experience with summer internships at Harvard University and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration.

Musical Career

Soundtracks and Collaborations

Hirushi’s musical journey began in 2016 with her first playback song “Heenen Awidinna,” the signature track of the film Maya 3D starring Pubudu Chathuranga and Ranjan Ramanayake. This marked her entry into Sri Lankan cinematic music. Her independent music career officially launched in 2018 with her debut single “Hanguman,” produced by Pasan Liyanage and written by Malini Liyanage. The music video, in which she starred opposite Hemal Ranasinghe, garnered significant attention.

Her subsequent works include “Horu” featuring Ranidu Lankage and Killer B in 2019, and “Kirula” featuring Bachi in 2020, both produced by Pasan Liyanage. These tracks received exclusive features on BBC Asian Network, with “Horu” becoming the track of the week in 2019. Hirushi’s collaboration with Malindu on “Kathirina,” produced by Iraj Weeraratne, further cemented her presence in the mass music market.

In 2020, Hirushi ventured into the local rap scene with projects like “Patriots of Humanity,” produced by Achala (Mr. A), featuring veteran musicians such as Chitral Somapala, Natasha Rathnayake, Suresh De Silva, and Tennyson Napoleon of Stigmata. This experimental phase continued with “Viruwan Obai,” produced by Rapzilla, and “Diriya,” produced by Pasan Liyanage.

Her foray into English music was marked by the single “No Temptations,” exclusively featured on Yes FM Sri Lanka. Expanding her horizons, Hirushi is currently working on international projects in the Hindi and Kannada music industries, including “Meri Zindagi,” produced by Pavan Maligi and featuring Bollywood sensation Shaan (Shantanu Mukherjee).
