Heavy Snow, High Winds as Storm Goretti Approaches UK

Large parts of the UK have been hit by harsh winter conditions as the nation prepares for the arrival of Storm Goretti.

Northern Scotland experienced the most extreme impact on Wednesday, where freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall forced the closure of more than 400 schools. In Aberdeenshire, residents were seen trudging through thick snowdrifts in order to pick up essential groceries and supplies.

Transport has been heavily affected throughout the day. Traffic Scotland and National Rail have both issued ongoing warnings, with road and rail passengers urged to expect delays and service changes. Disruption is expected to persist into the evening as conditions worsen.

Eurostar has also reported major problems, advising travellers to prepare for sudden cancellations that may continue until at least Thursday. Across Europe, airports have struggled to cope with the severe weather, with Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport alone cancelling over 700 flights due to hazardous conditions.

As Storm Goretti approaches, authorities warn that further disruption is likely, and the public is encouraged to stay updated on travel guidance and weather alerts.
