The Meteorology Department has issued a cautionary heat warning for select areas in the North-Western province, Gampaha, Colombo, Hambantota, and Moneragala Districts. With temperatures expected to rise to levels considered “cautionary,” individuals are urged to take precautions, including staying hydrated, seeking shade, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities, especially during peak heat hours.

The Meteorology Department has issued a heat wave caution for specific locations in the North-Western province, as well as Gampaha, Colombo, Hambantota, and Moneragala Districts. According to the Heat Index Advisory released by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre, temperatures are forecasted to reach levels categorized as “cautionary,” prompting concerns for public health and safety.

The heat index, representing the temperature felt by the human body, is expected to rise to cautionary levels in the mentioned districts. With temperatures ranging from 39 to 45 Celsius, individuals are cautioned about the potential risks associated with prolonged exposure and physical activity in such conditions. Symptoms such as fatigue and heat cramps may occur, emphasizing the importance of taking necessary precautions to mitigate heat-related health risks.

In light of the heat wave warning, the public is advised to prioritize hydration and seek shade whenever possible, particularly during peak heat hours. Individuals are encouraged to check on vulnerable populations, including the elderly and sick, and to refrain from leaving children unattended inside vehicles, where temperatures can escalate rapidly.

To cope with the heat wave, people are recommended to wear lightweight, breathable clothing in light colors to reflect sunlight and minimize heat absorption. Furthermore, limiting strenuous outdoor activities and taking regular breaks in shaded areas are essential measures to prevent heat-related illnesses.

As the heat wave caution remains in effect, authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and adhere to preventive guidelines to ensure their well-being during periods of heightened heat exposure. By staying informed and taking proactive measures, individuals can better safeguard themselves and others from the potential adverse effects of extreme heat conditions.
