Harry’s Ongoing Media War Takes a Fresh Turn in Court

Prince Harry is set to return to London this week as his final lawsuit against a British newspaper group heads to trial. The case centers on allegations that Associated Newspapers illegally gathered private information — charges the publisher strongly denies.

The trial begins Monday at the High Court and is expected to run for up to nine weeks. Harry is one of seven well-known claimants, alongside Elton John, David Furnish, Elizabeth Hurley and others, who accuse the publisher of using unlawful methods such as hiring private investigators, placing listening devices in vehicles, and impersonating individuals to access confidential records.

Harry is expected to attend the opening days and will take the witness stand on Thursday. Several other high-profile witnesses are scheduled to testify in the following weeks.

This marks the prince’s latest effort in his campaign to challenge media misconduct — a battle partly rooted in his belief that aggressive press behavior contributed to Princess Diana’s death in 1997.

Harry has already won or settled two previous cases involving phone hacking and privacy breaches, including a significant damages award against Mirror Group and a settlement with Rupert Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers.

Although the prince is making a rare trip back to Britain from California, reports suggest he is unlikely to meet King Charles during this visit. Legal experts say the case raises broader questions about media accountability and press freedom in the UK.
