Food Voyageur, the creation of Instagram-famous cake designer Rachi Fernandopulle, is excited to announce its grand opening on Thursday, 7th December, following a soft launch on Friday, 29th November, at its vibrant new location on Carlisle Street.
Renowned for crafting Melbourne’s most exquisite and innovative cupcakes, custom cakes, Food Voyageur invites the community to indulge in a celebration of creativity, flavour, and heritage.
A Journey of Passion and Perseverance
What began as a modest baking endeavour during the COVID lockdown has transformed into a culinary sensation. “I started baking at home, experimenting with my skills and sharing recipes on Instagram, especially my Sri Lankan Christmas cake,” recalls Rachi. “The response was overwhelming. People would travel over 100 km to taste my cakes! That’s when I realized the positive impact I was making in the community.”
While balancing a demanding 9-to-5 job, Rachi devoted her evenings to perfecting her cakes, driven by passion and resilience. Earlier this year, Food Voyageur’s pop-ups in shopping centers attracted immense demand and a loyal following.
“My Instagram followers and my husband, Shavie Perera, have been my biggest support system,” Rachi shares. “Their encouragement gave me the confidence to turn this dream into a full-time business.”
A Destination for Dessert Lovers
The newly renovated store offers a cozy and welcoming space for customers to enjoy tea, coffee and cakes. Food Voyageur’s signature cupcakes include indulgent flavours such as Red Velvet, Tiramisu, Black Forest, Passionfruit Cheesecake, Lemon Meringue, and festive favourites like Eggnog Cupcake. Custom cakes, showcasing artistry and skill, remain a key highlight on the menu.

Honouring her Sri Lankan roots, Rachi has partnered with Dilmah Tea to create a curated tea menu that reflects tradition and excellence. For coffee enthusiasts, Food Voyageur collaborates with local roaster Common Folks to deliver perfectly brewed cups.
“I’ve always dreamed of creating a space where people could enjoy my creations while connecting with the flavours of my heritage,” Rachi explains. “Partnering with Dilmah Tea allows me to celebrate Sri Lankan culture, and I’m excited to explore creating a signature ‘Voyageur Tea’ blend in the future.”
