Government employees in Dubai to work fewer hours during Ramadan

The Dubai Government Human Resources Department has released the official working arrangements for government institutions during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH, reinforcing its focus on employee wellbeing and family life in line with the “Year of the Family” initiative.

According to the directive, public sector employees will work from 9.00 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, while Friday working hours will be from 9.00 a.m. until noon. The adjusted timetable is designed to allow staff more time for family engagement, religious observance, and community activities throughout Ramadan.

The circular also allows government entities to introduce flexible morning start times, enabling employees to report to work anytime between 7.00 a.m. and 10.00 a.m., provided they complete the required number of daily working hours. In addition, eligible roles may benefit from remote working arrangements for up to two days per week, further supporting family stability and work-life balance during the holy month.

Officials noted that these measures demonstrate the Dubai Government’s commitment to modern, flexible workplace practices that accommodate employees’ personal needs while ensuring continued productivity and high institutional performance. Government bodies have also been instructed to set suitable schedules for shift-based employees and staff involved in essential public services or facility management, ensuring uninterrupted operations and efficient service delivery across all sectors.
