In a major shift reflecting modern media trends, the Golden Globes have announced the addition of a “Best Podcast of the Year” category. The new award will debut at the 2026 ceremony on January 11, spotlighting the growing influence and creativity within the podcasting world.
According to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the category aims to celebrate “extraordinary and diverse talents in podcasting,” including narrative, interview, news-based, and visual podcasts. Only the top 25 podcasts will be considered, with six finalists to be nominated.
Golden Globes President Helen Hoehne stated, “As the world of entertainment evolves, we’re proud to recognise new forms of storytelling,” adding that the new award bridges tradition and innovation by amplifying fresh voices and formats.
Comedian Nikki Glaser is set to host the 2026 show for the second time, following her widely praised debut earlier this year. Known for her sharp wit, Glaser joked about landing a role in The White Lotus season four, saying she’s ready to play a “Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a shadowy past.”
More details on podcast eligibility will be announced soon.
