Wuthering Heights has launched to a powerful global start, earning $82 million in its opening weekend—split between $40M domestic and $42M international markets, according to Warner Bros. The total is the studio’s primary focus, highlighting the film’s broad appeal across the globe.
In North America, estimates place the four-day take around $35M, while international markets continue to drive growth, particularly in Europe and Australia. Directed by Emerald Fennell, the adaptation stars Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie. For Elordi, this marks his biggest box office debut to date, while Robbie’s $34.8M domestic start ranks as her fourth-highest after Barbie, Suicide Squad, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Rival releases, including GOAT, which earned $47.6M globally, came close to challenging Warner Bros.’ top position in North America, with only about a $1M difference in four-day estimates. Comparisons have been drawn to the last notable clash, when Sony’s Garfield nearly overtook Furiosa over Memorial Day weekend 2024.
Valentine’s Day Impact
The Valentine’s Day holiday proved beneficial for box office takings. Across all titles, domestic receipts reached $51.8M, slightly below last year’s $66.5M when the holiday fell on a Friday. Wuthering Heights posted a 31% increase Friday-to-Saturday domestically, while GOAT rose 66% and Crime 101 jumped 75%, aided by strong reviews.
International Performance
Globally, Wuthering Heights played on 14,346 screens across 76 territories, with the UK leading at $10.3M, representing a third of Europe’s earnings. Italy followed with $4.4M, while Australia contributed $4.3M, benefiting from Robbie and Elordi’s local appeal. Other No. 1 markets included India, Thailand, and Singapore. Latin America accounted for 44% of the international market, with Mexico leading at $3.3M, Brazil $1.1M, and Argentina $564K.
The film performed less strongly in France ($1.9M), Korea, UAE, and Turkey, with France audiences less receptive to this adaptation of Heathcliff. Germany ($2.4M), Spain ($2.2M), and Poland ($2.2M) were among other strong performers. Upcoming openings include Japan (Feb 27), Vietnam (Feb 27), and China (Mar 13).
Domestic Hotspots
In the U.S., premium and IMAX screens represented 31% of total weekend earnings. Top-performing theaters included AMC Lincoln Square (NYC), AMC Century City (LA), AMC Burbank, and Regal Union Square (NYC). Key domestic markets for the film were New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington DC, Boston, Toronto, Philadelphia, and Atlanta.
Warner Bros.’ aggressive global rollout and marketing—featuring a roughly $100M P&A campaign with talent visits to Paris, the UK, and Australia—has clearly paid off, making Wuthering Heights one of the most successful openings of the year so far.
