This initial training included a six-month industrial attachment to the Housekeeping Department at Hotel Taj Samudra Colombo, providing him with invaluable hands-on experience.

Further Studies and International Experience

In 1998, Angammana’s quest for knowledge took him to Australia, where he undertook an extensive range of hospitality courses. He earned a Certificate in Hospitality (Restaurant & Catering Management), a Certificate IV in Hospitality (Accommodation Services Supervision), a Diploma in Hospitality Management, and a Bachelor of Hospitality Management with a focus on Human Resource Management. During his time in Australia, he gained practical experience working part-time at Sydney Tower Buffet and played a crucial role in the world’s largest catering operation during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Professional Career in Hospitality

Upon his return to Sri Lanka in 2003, Angammana briefly worked for Elephant Corridor, the first-ever boutique hotel in Sri Lanka. His international exposure continued in the United Kingdom, where he was employed at Mood Nightclub in Milton Keynes. These varied experiences honed his skills and broadened his understanding of global hospitality standards.

Military Service and Contributions

In 2005, Angammana joined the Sri Lanka Air Force as a Student Officer. His training at the Air Force Combat Training Wing in Diyatalawa prepared him for a role that combined military discipline with hospitality management. He served as Resident Manager cum Base Catering Officer at multiple bases, including Colombo Headquarters, Anuradhapura Base, China Bay Academy, and Diyatalawa Station. His exemplary service earned him the North Humanitarian Operation Medal and the East Humanitarian Operation Medal. Notably, in 2009, he hosted Ban Ki-Moon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, during his visit to the Air Force Base in Anuradhapura.

Post-Military Career and Entrepreneurial Ventures

After retiring from the Air Force in 2012 with the rank of Flight Lieutenant, Angammana continued to make significant contributions to the hospitality industry. He served as Duty Manager at Hotel Topaz/The Tourmaline in Kandy and later ventured into entrepreneurship. Since 2014, he has been running Home Away From Home in Peradeniya and, since 2016, Area 51 in Matale. His academic pursuits also continued, culminating in a Master of Science in Entrepreneurship & Innovation in 2019 and a Mini Master of Business Administration in 2020. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Business Administration and serves as a Justice of the Peace.
