Fifth Medal Glory for Australia as Flag-bearer Dominates Moguls

Matt Graham Secures Second Medal as Australia Continues Record-Breaking Winter Olympics Run

Australia’s outstanding performance at the Winter Olympics continued as Matt Graham earned his second career Olympic medal, taking bronze in the dual moguls event at Milan-Cortina 2026.

Graham, who claimed silver in the standard moguls at the 2018 Games, joined fellow Australian Jakara Anthony on the podium in this new head-to-head tournament-style format. Although Graham fell short of matching Anthony’s gold, he impressively won three consecutive rounds before narrowly losing to Horishima Ikuma in the semifinals.

That set up a decisive small final against Shimakawa Takuya, where Graham delivered a winning performance to claim bronze.

“Matt is an incredible human being and such an inspirational athlete,” Anthony remarked in an interview with Nine.

The results marked a historic milestone for Australia, as both of the nation’s flag-bearers reached the podium at these Games. While moguls competitors Cooper Woods, Jackson Harvey, and George Murphy were eliminated in the round of 16, Graham’s success cemented his place among Australia’s elite Winter Olympians.

With this medal, Graham becomes the eighth Australian athlete to win multiple Winter Olympic medals, joining Anthony, Dale Begg-Smith, Steven Bradbury, Torah Bright, Alisa Camplin, Scotty James, and Lydia Lassila.

This year also marks a historic first for Australia, which has now won five medals at a single Winter Olympics: three golds, one silver, and Graham’s bronze. Gold medals were claimed by Cooper Woods, Jakara Anthony, and Josie Baff, while Scotty James earned silver in the halfpipe.

Australia’s Winter Olympics campaign continues to be its most successful ever, showcasing a new era of elite talent across multiple disciplines.
