Formula 1 fans are rallying for the return of Daniel Ricciardo as Red Bull faces a performance crisis with its current No. 2 driver, Sergio Perez. Following a series of underwhelming performances, fans are calling for Ricciardo to take over, especially after Perez’s disappointing 17th-place finish at his home race in Mexico.
The Red Bull team, led by team principal Christian Horner and senior adviser Helmut Marko, has been increasingly vocal about their dissatisfaction with Perez’s performance. Asked if Perez, known as “Checo,” would finish the season, Horner stated, “Look, it’s a performance-based business. There comes a point in time that difficult decisions have to be made.”
Red Bull has endured a challenging season, with Max Verstappen (362 points) leading the team while Perez struggles to support him. With four races left in the season, speculation is mounting that Red Bull might replace Perez, despite the two years left on his contract.
The call for Ricciardo’s comeback has been growing louder, with fans holding supportive signs at recent Grand Prix events in Mexico and Texas. Social media is abuzz with supporters, including Fox Sports host Niko Pajarillo, who tweeted, “There is NO WAY you’re telling me Daniel Ricciardo wouldn’t do a better job in this Red Bull than Checo.”
Journalists have also weighed in, with GPFans’ Dan Ripley writing, “Not only is it time to promote Liam Lawson to Red Bull for an end-of-season feeler for 2025, but it’s also time to bring back Daniel Ricciardo at RB.”
Meanwhile, Ricciardo, who recently lost his seat, has been focusing on other opportunities, hinting at possible appearances in NASCAR or Australia’s Supercars. Despite his positive social media posts, fans continue to advocate for his return, believing his experience and skill would benefit Red Bull’s performance.
Red Bull juniors Isack Hadjar and Arvid Lindblad have been mentioned by Horner as potential future F1 drivers, but there is uncertainty about whether they’ll get a drive this season. The team is left weighing its options as it seeks to secure consistent results from both of its drivers.
As Red Bull assesses the situation, Perez remains hopeful, saying, “I always say it’s my dream to win the Grand Prix in Mexico and I’ll try again next year… We’ll try again for them next year stronger.”
With tensions rising and fans continuing to campaign, the decision Red Bull makes about Perez’s future could reshape the team’s dynamics—and perhaps give Daniel Ricciardo one more shot at F1 glory.
