Travel with Wife is a captivating YouTube travel adventure channel created by Sri Lankan couple Kasun and Chamari Deegoda Gamage. Personal Life
Deegoda Gamage Kasun Sampath was born on July 27, 1988, in Panadura. He grew up in a modest household with his father, D.G Wajirawansa, a technician, and his mother, M.D Somalatha, a homemaker. Kasun has one younger sister and completed his education at St. John’s National School in Panadura.
Chamari, whose full name is Undugodage Chamaranayani Premarathne, was born on November 1, 1990, also in Panadura. Her father, U.M.M Premarathne, is a businessman, and her mother, H.L.M Perera, was a homemaker who sadly passed away on August 2, 2021, due to COVID-19.
The couple is blessed with a daughter named Elina .
The Beginning of an Adventure
The idea for Travel with Wife was sparked during the couple’s wedding anniversary trip to Kandy. Although they initially took photos without sharing them, a subsequent trip to Gampola inspired them to post travel photos on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Their captivating photos caught the attention of Ideal Hell, a company that provided them with equipment and support to produce high-quality travel videos .
During this time, they met popular television personality Chathura Alwis, who suggested the name Travel with Wife. Their first travel vlog, featuring Diyaluma Falls, was released on May 4, 2018. Since then, they have explored numerous iconic locations in Sri Lanka, including Ella, Sigiriya, Jaffna, Pasikuda, Mirissa, Mannar, and Trincomalee, sharing their experiences through visually stunning videos and photos .
Achievements and Collaborations
In 2019, Travel with Wife collaborated with SriLankan Airlines to promote the Vesak event titled “The Spirit of SriLankan Airlines and the Magic of Vesak.” This collaboration led to a video that won the Best Marketing Innovation award at the 2020 APEX/IFSA Awards .
The channel’s influence grew, earning them the title of Most Popular Influencer of the Year at the 2019 Raigam Social Media Awards (SoMe) . That same year, they joined forces with Dell Technologies and the Road to Rights Youth Organization to launch an initiative aimed at reducing plastic pollution in Sri Lanka’s waters and promoting recycling .
In 2021, Kasun and Chamari were named ambassadors for Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14): “Life Below Water.” They participated in the youth-led national campaign “#ActionToImpact,” which supports the UN Decade of Action and contributes to the Global Week to #Act4SDGs. This initiative aims to accelerate the localization of Sustainable Development Goals in Sri Lanka .
