Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has pushed back strongly against remarks made by Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, stating that the real issue surrounding education reforms is ministerial competence, not personal mentality.
Responding to comments suggesting that Premadasa’s mental stability should be examined before implementing education reforms, the Opposition Leader said such claims divert attention from serious flaws in the proposed reforms.
“I wonder what you mean by ‘mentality’,” Premadasa said in a post on X. He explained that his opposition to the reforms was based on substantial errors found in school learning modules, including links to inappropriate and pornographic websites.
“If such material passed your review process, then the real question is not about my mentality, but about your competence,” he stated, urging the minister to conduct proper evaluations before criticising others.
Premadasa’s remarks have intensified the ongoing debate over education reforms, highlighting concerns about quality control, accountability, and oversight within the reform process.
