Sri Lankan fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera has been enlisted by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a replacement for England’s Gus Atkinson in the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, the franchise announced on Monday.
In a strategic move, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have brought in Sri Lankan pace sensation Dushmantha Chameera to fill the void left by England’s Gus Atkinson for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, according to a statement from the IPL organizers.
Chameera, known for his raw pace and ability to unsettle batsmen, will bolster KKR’s bowling attack as they gear up for the upcoming season. The Sri Lankan cricketer comes on board with a reserve price of ₹50 lakh, marking his return to the IPL after stints with Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore in previous seasons, and most recently with Lucknow Super Giants in 2022, where he impressed with nine wickets from 12 matches.
Meanwhile, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) has witnessed unfortunate setbacks with the exclusion of rising talent Kashvee Gautam due to injury. Despite being the most expensive uncapped Indian player in WPL history, securing a contract with Gujarat Giants for ₹2 crore, Gautam will miss the second edition of the league. In her absence, Mumbai’s Sayali Sathgare has been named as her replacement at a reserve price of ₹10 lakh.
Adding to the list of sidelined players is India’s all-rounder Kanika Ahuja, who will also miss WPL 2024 due to an injury.
