Niraj Udhwani, a 33-year-old Indian expat from Dubai who was among the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, was laid to rest in his hometown of Jaipur. He was on vacation with his wife when tragedy struck.
The final rites of Niraj Udhwani, the 33-year-old Indian expat who tragically lost his life in the Pahalgam terror attack, were held in Jaipur on Thursday at 10 a.m. His remains were transported from Kashmir to Jaipur on Wednesday, where relatives and friends gathered to pay their last respects.
Originally from Jaipur, Niraj had been living in Dubai since childhood. A chartered accountant by profession, he worked with the Cognita school group and was known for his intelligence, dedication, and kind-hearted nature. He was also an alumnus of the Indian High School in Dubai.
Niraj and his wife had travelled to India to attend a friend’s wedding in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. After the wedding, they decided to take a short vacation in Kashmir. It was during this trip that the couple found themselves in Pahalgam, where Niraj was fatally shot during a terror attack that claimed 26 lives.
His uncle shared that the couple had planned the vacation well in advance and were accompanied by other relatives to the wedding. The horrifying incident occurred just as they extended their stay in Kashmir.
Niraj had been married for two years and lived in the Mina Road Wasl community in Dubai. His close friend described him as one of the most sincere and kind individuals they had known, expressing disbelief and heartbreak over the sudden loss.
The news sent shockwaves through the expat community in Dubai and India. Tributes poured in online, including a heartfelt message from CAclubindia, a platform for Chartered Accountants. “Gone too soon, but never forgotten,” the message read, as the platform mourned the loss of a promising professional and a beloved friend.
Several of Niraj’s friends from Dubai and India travelled to Jaipur for the funeral, while others expressed their grief and condolences from afar. His friend V.S. shared, “We are heartbroken. He was due to return to Dubai this week—but fate had other plans.”
As Niraj is laid to rest, his story remains a painful reminder of the innocent lives lost in senseless violence.
