The Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has introduced new guidelines for private schools during Ramadan, limiting the school day to a maximum of five hours. Under the guidance, students who are fasting are also excused from physical education classes.
KHDA explained that the shortened school hours aim to respect the spirit of Ramadan while ensuring that learning continues smoothly and that both students and teachers experience less strain during the holy month.
Fasting students will not be required to take part in PE sessions, with schools encouraged to provide suitable alternative learning activities to maintain engagement and safety.
Additionally, private schools are instructed to conclude classes by 11:30 a.m. on Fridays, allowing students and staff to attend Friday prayers without conflict. The authority also recommended that schools consult parents when planning daily schedules, promoting stronger school-family collaboration and flexibility in learning during Ramadan.
KHDA emphasized that these measures are intended to create a supportive learning environment that balances educational needs with the cultural, health, and religious considerations observed across the UAE during Ramadan.
