Djokovic to Face Sinner in Australian Open Semis

Novak Djokovic will face reigning champion Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open semifinals after a dramatic quarterfinal marked by injury and retirement.

The 10-time Melbourne champion lost the opening two sets 6-4, 6-3 to fifth seed Lorenzo Musetti before turning the match around in the third. However, with Djokovic holding a break advantage, Musetti was forced to retire due to a right-leg injury, sending the 38-year-old Serb through to his 103rd career win at Melbourne Park.

Djokovic admitted fortune played a role in his progression, saying he felt “very lucky” to still be in the tournament.

Earlier, Sinner produced a composed performance to defeat Ben Shelton 6-3, 6-4, 6-4, extending his unbeaten run at the Australian Open to 19 matches. The Italian, who has beaten Djokovic in their last five meetings, acknowledged he too has had his share of challenges during the tournament.

The men’s semifinals will feature the top four seeds, with Carlos Alcaraz set to meet Alexander Zverev in the other last-four clash.

Djokovic continues his pursuit of a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title, while Sinner aims to defend his crown and strengthen his dominance over the Serbian legend.
