Divesh Sareen, a local businessman, mentor, and author, is one of the three candidates running for Lyster Ward in the upcoming council elections. Born and raised in Ludhiana, Punjab, Sareen’s early life was shaped by financial challenges and limited resources. His ambition to uplift his family drove him to seek opportunities beyond his hometown, ultimately leading him to Australia 16 years ago, where he pursued a master’s degree in IT. Since then, Sareen has been deeply involved in corporate start-ups, offering his mentorship and coaching to businesses, helping them grow by sharing his valuable insights.
Having lived in the hills for over a decade, Sareen now feels it’s time to give back to the community that embraced him. His campaign for Lyster Ward is fueled by a desire to bring a fresh perspective, combining his expertise in IT, business, and interpersonal skills, to benefit the local council. He believes his experiences in business and technology, along with his proactive approach, make him a strong candidate to address local issues.
“Adaptability is the most important skill I’ve developed,” Sareen explains. He speaks from personal experience, having faced numerous challenges while adjusting to a new culture in Australia. These hurdles have sharpened his resilience, equipping him with skills he considers essential for making an impact on the council. “I believe my ability to adapt and my proactive mindset can bring immediate value to the council’s work,” Sareen said.
If elected, Sareen’s priorities will include resolving road and parking problems, particularly around schools during peak times, and improving access to council resources. He emphasizes the importance of open dialogue and collaboration, stating, “By gathering feedback and working as a team, I can develop actionable solutions, just as I have successfully done for other businesses in the past.”
Sareen’s community engagement is already visible, and his connections with prominent Australian cricketers like Brett Lee and Glenn McGrath could unlock new opportunities for the local youth. He believes that his background in technology and product development, paired with his commitment to serving the community, will provide tailored solutions to the challenges Lyster Ward faces.
Sareen is also keen to hear from the community, welcoming conversations to better understand their concerns. “I’m available for discussions, whether over coffee or in a group setting,” he says. His vision is to present these concerns to the council and create meaningful change that resonates with the community.
