Digital Journalists Association of Sri Lanka launched

The Digital Journalists Association of Sri Lanka (DJASL) was launched in Colombo yesterday, with the intention of building a collective of journalists engaged in the digital media space in the backdrop of a fast-evolving global digital media space and challenges that have emerged as a result.

The DJASL is open to all full-time and part-time journalists on digital media platforms and is an inclusive collective that represents Sri Lanka’s demographic diversity and pluralisms, including geographic, ethnic, linguistic, religious, cultural and gender.

The association will also represent the rights and interests of all the socio-political and economically marginalised communities ignored by the mainstream media.

Going forward, the DJASL will also engage with the state as well as other media and related bodies on issues related to online media, digital safety and freedom of expression/information/publication.

It will also be the representative body in state and stakeholder consultations related to media-related reforms, policies and legislation. (Newswire)
