A mass shooting in northeastern British Columbia on Tuesday left ten people dead, including a suspected shooter, according to Canadian authorities.
Police said six victims were discovered inside Tumbler Ridge High School, while two more were found at a nearby residence linked to the incident. Another individual died en route to the hospital.
The suspected shooter was also found dead, apparently from a self-inflicted injury. Authorities confirmed there are no additional suspects and no ongoing threat to the public. Early reports suggested the shooter may have been female, described in an official alert as wearing a dress with brown hair.
“Officers encountered multiple casualties as they moved through the school,” said Superintendent Ken Floyd during a press briefing. He added that the scene is now secure, with investigators working to determine the details of the incident and the type of weapons used.
Tumbler Ridge is a small town of roughly 2,400 residents, situated in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains about 1,155 kilometers northeast of Vancouver. Authorities reported that another 25 people were being treated for injuries at a local medical facility.
British Columbia’s Public Safety Minister, Nina Krieger, extended her condolences to the community, noting that the government is providing full support to the RCMP and local officials.
