Crafting Connections: Uniting Communities Through Threads of Care

Crafting is not just about creating; it’s about coming together, sharing stories, and making a difference. On Sunday, April 7, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm (GMT+11:00), at 105 Moorabool Street, Geelong, AU, the Barwon Urban Knitting Project invites you to join our crafternoon session.

Crafting has always been a universal language, weaving together people from diverse backgrounds, ages, and experiences. At the heart of our community lies a tapestry enriched with these unique threads. In collaboration with the Barwon Community Legal Service, Geelong Illustrators proudly presents a series of free social crafternoons. Our aim? To shine a light on the Barwon Elder Abuse Primary Prevention (BEAPP) Network while crafting items for a meaningful cause.

During these sessions, participants are encouraged to crochet, knit, or weave pieces that will be showcased at the Geelong Library and later donated to Geelong Mums. Our collective efforts not only raise awareness for elder abuse prevention but also contribute tangible support to those in need. From single bed blankets to soft stuffed toys, every stitch is a gesture of care and solidarity.

Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just starting out, everyone is welcome. While these sessions are not instructed, assistance will be available, and resources to learn crochet and knitting basics are provided. We’ll provide donated yarn, crochet hooks, and knitting needles, but feel free to bring your own materials.

Can’t make it to the crafternoon? No worries! You can still contribute by crafting at home and dropping off your creations at the Geelong Illustrators Studio Gallery. Together, let’s knit a community of support and warmth, one stitch at a time.

To RSVP or for more information, email hello@geelongillustrators.com.au. Join us in weaving a brighter future and honoring the traditional custodians of the land, the Wadawurrung People of the Kulin Nation.

Keep up to date with our events by following @geelong_illustrators on Instagram and joining our mailing list. Let’s stitch together a tapestry of compassion and empowerment.
