Yesterday marked the groundbreaking ceremony for the premier business park, the Business Center, within Port City Colombo. This project, the largest Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) initiative in Sri Lanka’s history, underscores the government’s dedication to attracting foreign investment. Positioned as a greenfield project, Port City Colombo positions Sri Lanka as a significant player in the region’s technology and commerce sectors. The ceremony also marks the official welcoming of Authorized Persons (APs) to operate within the Port City Colombo Special Economic Zone.
Port City Colombo expressed that the Business Center will be a vibrant space fostering knowledge exchange and advancements such as generative AI, while also drawing in top talent from across South Asia. It is envisioned as a catalyst for growth, innovation, and collaboration, inviting investors and global corporations to capitalize on this strategic hub at the heart of South Asia.
Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong, State Minister of Investment Promotion Dilum Amunugama, Chairman of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Dinesh Weerakkody, and the Managing Director of CHEC Port City Colombo (Pvt) Ltd graced the ceremony with their presence.
