Jayasinghe Arachchige Chandima Nuwan, known widely as Chandimal Jayasinghe is a prominent Sri Lankan cosmetologist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. Born on May 31, 1983, in Beddagana, Pitakotte, Colombo, he has carved a niche for himself in the world of beauty and fashion. Chandimal is best recognized for organizing high-profile bridal competitions, Miss Sri Lanka and Miss World pageants, as well as his opulent birthday celebrations. He currently holds the prestigious position of National Director of Mrs. World (Sri Lanka).
Personal Life
Chandimal Jayasinghe was born to Jayasinghe Arachchige Chandradasa, a food stall owner, and Kuruvitage Gunawathi Silva, a homemaker. He grew up in a family of three children, with an elder sister named Chandani. Chandimal completed his education at St. Thomas’ College, Kotte, up to the ordinary level. His father passed away in 2017 after a brief illness.
On May 30, 2021, Chandimal made headlines for organizing a birthday party at Shangri-La Colombo during the COVID-19 pandemic, which violated health guidelines. He, along with actress and model Piumi Hansamali and several other attendees, was arrested but later released on bail on June 1, 2021.
Career
Chandimal’s journey into the world of beauty and fashion began in his teenage years. After a few unsuccessful attempts at computer courses, he found his passion in flower making and hair styling. At the age of 16, inspired by his sister’s wedding, he started designing bridal wear. His first significant break came when he did makeup for a music video, which eventually led to his role as the chief beautician for the reality dance competition Sirasa Dancing Star.
In 2004, Chandimal established his own beauty salon and quickly became a sought-after makeup artist for various television stations. His reputation soared when he did the wedding makeup for actress Himali Sayurangi on March 1, 2012, leading to numerous bridal makeup requests from celebrities. His clientele includes former Mrs. World, actress, and politician Rosy Senanayake, for whom he serves as the official makeup artist.
Philanthropy and High-Profile Events
Chandimal is not only known for his beauty expertise but also for his extravagant birthday parties, which have become major social events in Sri Lanka. His 2017 birthday celebration at The Kingsbury Hotel featured a Bollywood theme, and his 2018 party at Shangri-La Hotel was attended by around 800 guests, including 80 journalists. However, following the tragic Easter bombings in 2019, he refrained from hosting a lavish celebration, opting instead to focus on charity work.
In 2018, Chandimal was appointed National Director of Mrs. World (Sri Lanka) and co-produced the event with The Colombo Lifestyle Company. In 2019, he organized the Mrs. Sri Lanka competition at the request of Rosy Senanayake. His expertise was further recognized when he did the makeup for Caroline Jurie, the winner of the Mrs. World pageant in 2020.
