Steps have been taken to introduce the taste of Sri Lankan iced tea to Japanese tea lovers.
Accordingly, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan recently held a Ceylon Ice Tea promotion programme to introduce Sri Lankan tea, which is very popular among the people of Japan, as a cold tea drink or iced tea.
Under this move the Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan organized the “Ceylon Ice Tea” promotion event as a refreshing symbol of friendship through the taste of pure ceylon tea between the two countries during the current hot summer season in Japan.
“We hope that this initiative to introduce Sri Lankan iced tea to Japanese tea drinking cultural regions will bring a taste of Sri Lankan warmth to our Japanese tea drinking friends,” said Sri Lankan Ambassador to Japan Prof. Pivithuru Janak Kumarasinghe.
The Sri Lanka Tea Board, in collaboration with the Japan Tea Association, held the Ceylon Iced Tea Promotion Event on July 3 and 4 at Chiyoda, Tokyo.
The Japanese tea enthusiasts who attended said that this iced tea promotion event not only highlights the vibrant flavors of Ceylon tea among the Japanese Sri Lankan community, but also further strengthens the cultural ties between Sri Lanka and Japan through sharing and appreciating the tea heritage.
