A celebrity chef has lashed out at a customer who said one of the chef’s iconic dishes looked like it belonged in the frozen food aisle.
Tom Kerridge, who owns Kerridge Bar and Grill, has been slammed before for the $61.65 price tag attached to his fish and chips.
He recently took to Instagram to share the recipe to recreate the fish, chips and tartare sauce at home.
“I know my fish and chips are always a hot topic,” the chef captioned the image of his dish.
“And in my opinion, you absolutely can’t beat a good fish and chippy tea.”
But, one person disagreed with the quality of the chef’s meal, taking to the comment section to let rip.
“Looks like something you’d get in the frozen aisle. Poor,” the social media user said.
But Chef Kerridge didn’t take too kindly to the criticism and decided to respond in a big way.
“Robbie, sad post mate,” the two-Michelin star chef replied.
“Cheer up buddy, say something nice, don’t be a d*ck. It’s not a good look.”
Other social media users were divided – with some backing up the initial criticism while others praised the dish.
“I’ve eaten @cheftomkerridge fish and chips and they were delicious,” one social media user said.
Another said: “Looks like a deep fried nappy … unfortunately.”
“Overpriced in this cost of living crisis,” another user commented on the Instagram post.
Another said: “I would swear that is out of a supermarket, what’s with the eight chips?”
“@kerridgesbandg fish & chips are the best. It’s delicious,” another complimented.
The television chef was also slammed for the price of his Market Day Fish Meal sold at luxury department store Harrods in London at the end of last year.
The meal included a piece of Cornish fish in gluten free batter Matson curry sauce, tartare sauce, eight chips and pease pudding.
It had a price tag of $71.25.
