Ceasefire on Shaky Ground as India and Pakistan Trade Accusations of Violations

Just hours after agreeing to a full and immediate ceasefire, India and Pakistan have accused each other of breaching the deal, raising doubts about the sustainability of the fragile peace.

The ceasefire, brokered by the United States and supported by dozens of nations, came after four days of intense cross-border military strikes — including drones, artillery, and missile fire — following a deadly militant attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir. India blamed Pakistan-based groups for the attack, a claim Pakistan denies.

US President Donald Trump announced the agreement Saturday morning via Truth Social, calling it a “diplomatic breakthrough.” Pakistan’s Foreign Minister confirmed the deal and acknowledged the involvement of over 30 nations in the peace negotiations.

However, reports of fresh explosions and flashes in the skies over Srinagar and Jammu surfaced just hours later. BBC reporters and local residents confirmed hearing blasts despite the declared ceasefire.

India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri condemned what he called “repeated violations” of the understanding, stating that India’s military is providing an “appropriate response.”

In response, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire but blamed Indian forces for the breaches, urging restraint and communication to resolve any misunderstandings.

As both nations continue to exchange accusations, the situation remains highly volatile — testing the limits of the newly brokered peace.
