Canada Post Workers Begin Voting on Contract Offer as Union Pushes for Rejection

Unionized workers at Canada Post are set to begin voting today on the Crown corporation’s latest contract proposal, following a prolonged standoff lasting over 18 months.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), which represents approximately 55,000 employees, is urging its members to reject the offer. The vote was triggered after federal Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu requested the Canada Industrial Relations Board to present the corporation’s offer directly to workers.

The current offer includes a wage increase of around 13% over four years, but also proposes the inclusion of part-time workers—a move Canada Post argues is necessary to maintain operations and financial sustainability.

Union National President Jan Simpson stated that a strong “No” vote is essential not only to oppose the current terms, but also to safeguard the collective bargaining process.

The outcome of the vote could have significant implications for the future of Canada’s postal system and labor relations within the Crown corporation.
