Canada Clinches Bronze at World Junior Hockey

Zayne Parekh may have etched his name in the record books, but the 19-year-old Canadian defenceman was more focused on what his team didn’t achieve than the milestone he reached.

Parekh finished the 2026 World Junior Hockey Championship with a goal and an assist in Canada’s 6-3 victory over Finland, helping the team secure a bronze medal. His performance brought him to 13 points, setting a new record for the most points ever by a Canadian defenceman at an under-20 international tournament, surpassing the previous record of 12 points held by Bryan McCabe (1995) and Alex Pietrangelo (2008).

Despite the historic achievement, Parekh remained humble. When asked about breaking the record, he simply said, “Not too much. It’s just disappointing we didn’t come away with gold. That’s the ultimate goal.”

The Calgary Flames prospect wrapped up his tournament with an apology to fans and teammates, underlining that personal records were secondary to team success.
