Cameron Smith Set to Conquer the Australian Open: A Golfing Journey

Australian golfing superstar Cameron Smith is set to add his star power to the Australian Open, taking place from November 28 to December 1 at Kingston Heath Golf Club and The Victoria Golf Club.

While the Masters is his top priority, Smith is eager to pursue the elusive national title that has so far slipped through his fingers.

After confirming his participation in several tournaments, including the PGA Championship, the Queensland PGA, and the NSW Open, Smith is feeling motivated and excited about this upcoming challenge. “It’s one that I’ve always wanted to win,” Smith shared from his home in Queensland. “I’ve been close a couple of times, even losing in a play-off, so there’s definitely some motivation there to finally lift that trophy.”

He will be joined by fellow major winner Jason Day, Olympic teammate Min Woo Lee, and Cam Davis, while world No. 7 Hannah Green leads a strong women’s field in this dual-gender tournament.

Smith, who recently celebrated a $20.5 million victory with his all-Australian team at the Team Championship event, has participated in 11 Australian Opens but is yet to clinch the title. He recalls, “There have been some hard pills to swallow in the past. I feel like I’ve prepped for a lot, but I just haven’t been able to do it yet.”

As he gears up for the Australian Open, Smith is kicking off his tournament run at the Queensland PGA at Nudgee Golf Club (October 31 to November 3), followed by the NSW Open (November 14-17) and the Australian PGA at Royal Queensland (November 21-24).

“I really wanted to be prepped for the last couple of events,” Smith explained. “These smaller tournaments are a great opportunity to give back to Australian golf, and they help me get ready for the big ones, not just for this year but also leading into next year.”

After a couple of years of coming home feeling like a holiday, Smith is excited to get back into the swing of things. “I’ve put the clubs down enough and had enough time to get the golf bug back,” he said.

Looking ahead, the 2025 Masters at Augusta remains a burning ambition for Smith, who has secured an exemption.

He has finished in the top 10 four times in the last six years, including a runner-up finish in 2020. “Augusta is a place where I feel very comfortable,” he said, “and it’s one I really want to conquer.”

Cameron Smith’s journey continues, and with his determination and talent, fans can expect thrilling performances as he competes for his first Australian Open title.
