Cameron Green out of Test summer, surgery needed.

In a major setback for the Australian Test team, all-rounder Cameron Green will undergo surgery to address a unique defect in his back, which is expected to keep him out of action for up to six months.

The operation, which aims to stabilize the defect and reduce the risk of future recurrence, has been scheduled for this week in New Zealand. The injury is not as common in pace bowlers, which makes it a significant blow for the team.

Green’s absence will have a significant impact on the Australian team’s batting line-up, with Steve Smith’s future as a Test opener also uncertain. Smith had taken on the new role after David Warner’s retirement, and Green’s production with the bat had been a significant factor in the team’s success.

With Green out of the picture, the team may have to rethink its opening combination. Two players who could potentially fill the void are Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft, both of whom have been named in the Australia A squad that will play two games against India.

Another teen sensation, Sam Konstas, also seems to be in the mix as he is set to represent Australia A against India. Konstas has been impressing with his form in the Sheffield Shield, making it likely that he will be given an opportunity to showcase his skills at the highest level.

It remains to be seen how the Australian team will look without Green, but one thing is certain – Smith’s future as a Test opener will be under the microscope. With Harris, Bancroft, and Konstas in the mix, it’s possible that Smith may have to move back to number four, allowing a specialist opener to take his place.

The next few months will be crucial for the Australian team as they try to navigate the absence of Green and find a suitable replacement. The upcoming Test series against India will provide an opportunity for the team to put its new opening combination to the test, and it will be interesting to see how they adapt to the change.
