Boy, 16, decapitated by shark in horror attack while he was swimming off coast of Jamaica

A horrific shark attack claimed the life of a young Jamaican teenager near the popular Caribbean tourist destination of Montego Bay.

Jahmari Reid, a 16-year-old local high school student, was found decapitated and missing an arm after going on a solo spearfishing expedition on Monday.

His body was discovered on Tuesday morning.

Jahmari Reid, 16, has tragically died in a horror shark attack.

Jahmari’s disappearance sparked a frantic search, with fellow divers eventually locating his mutilated remains off the coast of Jamaica.

According to the Jamaica Observer, the teen’s body was found severely mutilated.

Witnesses expressing their disbelief and horror at the brutal attack.

The Boy’s father, Michael Reid, was present on the beach when his son’s body was brought ashore.

The retired taxi operator expressed shock at the events, telling local media, “I can’t believe that he went to sea by himself and that was the outcome. Sad to know. I feel so bad.”

Michael Reid said he had previously warned his son about the dangers of spearfishing alone.

The father was joined on the beach by local fisherman Christopher Reynolds and other community members, all of whom were stunned by the attack.

Mr Reynolds shared the terrifying moment when divers spotted a huge tiger shark near the location where Jahmari’s body was found and attempted to kill it.

“All of the fisherman went out there and, while they were diving to take him up, they saw the big shark. They shot at him but they didn’t get him,” Mr Reynolds said.

This deadly attack marks a rare occurrence in Jamaica.

According to the Florida-based International Shark Attack File, this is only the fourth time in history that an unprovoked shark attack has resulted in a fatality in the country.

Shark attacks in Jamaica are generally considered infrequent.

Fritz Christie, president of the Falmouth Fisherfolks Benevolent Society, confirmed that this is the first time such a fatal shark attack has occurred in Trelawny waters.

“What we have to do is make certain when the ships come to be careful of the diving,” Mr Christie said.

He added, “The shark eat off the man head, eat off one of his hand [sic]. It’s crazy, man.”

he incident has raised concerns about the presence of sharks in the area, with some locals speculating that the predator may have followed a cruise ship into the bay.

Jahmari Reid, a student at William Knibb Memorial High School, was set to return to classes in September after the holidays.
