Bourns launches a new miniature resettable thermal cutoff (TCO) device series.

Bourns, Inc. has recently unveiled its most recent generation of micro resettable thermal cutoff (TCO) devices, also referred to as mini-breakers. These devices have been specifically engineered to promptly regulate anomalous and excessive current, ensuring that it remains within the specified rated limits.

The NX Series of models presents enhanced current-carrying capacities in conjunction with a compact design, featuring a height of 0.94 mm and a body width of 2.8 mm. The aforementioned characteristics render this series a highly suitable solution for safeguarding against overtemperature and overcurrent in lithium polymer and prismatic cells. It is particularly well-suited for applications involving high energy density, smaller batteries like those found in next-generation laptop PC and tablet battery cells, as well as handheld and wearable electronics.

Bourns states that the new Model NX Series has an identical physical size to the Model NR series, but it has a higher current capacity of 40 percent. The observed outcome can be attributed to a multitude of design innovations, which encompass the utilization of novel electrode materials with enhanced conductivity. These features allow customers to reduce the size of their product while still ensuring a high level of protection against overtemperature and overcurrent, hence improving the dependability and safety of their product.

The Model NX Series exhibits a range of current capacities spanning from 12 A to 20 A at a temperature of 60 °C. It is offered in two options: with or without welding projections. These TCO devices offer design flexibility for various application settings, with four trip temperature options: 77 °C, 82 °C, 85 °C, and 90 °C. All of these options work within a tolerance of ±5 °C. The Model NX Series is equipped with a corrosion-resistant bimetal mechanism that receives a high rating. This mechanism provides improved durability in humid settings when compared to conventional TCO devices.
