Birmingham Airport Runway Closed as Snow Disrupts Flights

Birmingham Airport Halts Runway Operations as Storm Goretti Brings Heavy Snow

Birmingham Airport has suspended all runway operations due to heavy snowfall caused by Storm Goretti, prioritizing the safety of staff and passengers. Travelers have been advised to contact their airlines for updates on flight schedules.

The snowstorm is also disrupting road and rail travel. A section of the A38 Bristol Road in Birmingham has been closed, with reports of buses and cars sliding in hazardous conditions, particularly in Kings Heath.

An amber weather warning remains in effect across much of the Midlands and Wales until Friday morning, with snow accumulations expected to reach up to 30 cm in some areas.

Rail services are similarly affected. West Midlands Railway and Network Rail have urged passengers to check their journeys before travelling, warning that trains may be delayed due to icy tracks. From 7 PM GMT Thursday, some services in the West Midlands are running on a reduced timetable. Chiltern Railways has also announced a significantly reduced service for Friday.

Authorities are urging everyone in affected areas to exercise caution and plan travel carefully until the storm passes.
