A 46-year-old man allegedly used the messaging app Telegram to groom a 14-year-old girl before he lured her to a park, gave her meth and raped her, court documents reveal.
Billy Henry Smith was arrested in August after a teenage girl reported to police that a man had allegedly raped her in the toilet block of a playground in Sydney’s south.
Smith’s case came before the courts for the first time on Thursday where it was revealed police have now laid a total 13 charges against him over the incident.
Court documents revealed Smith was under a child protection order at the time of his alleged offending.
The order prohibited him from actively seeking out or remaining in the company of anyone under the age of 18 without their parent or guardian.
The documents also revealed Smith is accused of used the messaging app Telegram under the username ‘Bit Inya’ to “groom” the girl before luring her to Pole Depot Park in Penshurst.
He was charged after allegedly supplying meth to the 14-year-old girl and for possessing the drug.
Smith also allegedly filmed the rape before distributing the footage later that evening.
At the time of Smith’s arrest last year, the park’s local council said it was deeply upset about the alleged incident.
“Georges River Council is a child-safe organisation and is committed to putting children first and championing child safety within our community,” it said in a statement.
His case returns to Sydney Downing Centre on February 1.
