Bengaluru, India – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the much-anticipated Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro, marking a significant expansion of the city’s rapid transit system. The launch also included the introduction of a new Vande Bharat Express service.
The 19-km Yellow Line, stretching from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra, is part of Bengaluru Metro Phase-2 and comes at a project cost of approximately ₹7,160 crore. The route, featuring 16 stations, is expected to ease traffic congestion in key IT corridors such as Hosur Road, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City Junction.
During the inauguration, PM Modi took a metro ride from RV Road to Electronic City, interacting with students onboard. Residents gathered along the route welcomed him with chants of “Modi, Modi” and showered flower petals despite the rain.
With this addition, Bengaluru’s operational metro network now exceeds 96 km, serving a significantly larger population and offering relief to commuters battling the city’s notorious traffic.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar noted that three train sets are already operational on the Yellow Line, running at 25-minute intervals, with a fourth set arriving later this month. Train frequency is expected to increase to 10 minutes once additional sets are deployed.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union Housing & Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje, and other senior leaders.
