The Sydney bolthole of the late comedian, actor, author and satirist Barry Humphries is about to hit the market.

This is the three-bedroom apartment in the famous Quay West block that Humphries bought from the late Paul Ramsay, founder of Ramsay Health Care, in 2004 for $2.5m.

No doubt the legendary performer had been impressed by the expansive living and dining areas in the 167sqm space on level three with views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

The Sydney “flat”, as he apparently liked to call it, is set to hit the market this weekend via Ray White Residential director Francis Fusco, who has a guide in the $6m range for a March 21 auction.

It’s understood the legendary performer, best known for his iconic character Dame Edna Everage, had dealt directly with Ramsay for the 2004 purchase, an upgrade from the “flat”on the floor below that he sold for $1.67m three years later via Fusco.

Humphries had bought the level two apartment for $1,015,000 in November 2001 following his sale of the Rose Bay waterfront Villa Florida, which he’d just sold for $2.52m, bought five years before for $1.75m.

The level three apartment is a cut above, with each of the doouble bedrooms having breathtaking views.

There’s a granite kitchen with quality and two bathrooms, one with a luxurious spa.

There are two car spots on title and facilities include a pool, sauna, spa and 24-hour concierge service.

These two apartments owned by Humphries seem to have slipped under the radar, with no previous reports mentioning them.

Humphries was possibly discreet about their purchase following the uproar over his illegal amalgamation of two apartments to create a two-level home in the historic Astor block in Macquarie St in the 1970s and ‘80s.
