An Australian tourist was arrested upon returning to Singapore, nearly two years after allegedly stealing a S$248 (US$185) Chanel perfume bottle from a duty-free store at Changi Airport.
Raj Varsha, 35, is accused of committing the theft on March 22, 2023. Despite being identified through CCTV footage and police investigations shortly after the incident, Varsha had already left the country by the time authorities confirmed her identity, The Straits Times reported.
On March 31, 2025, Varsha returned to Singapore and was promptly arrested by local police, authorities said on April 3, Stomp reported.
Police said Varsha is expected to plead guilty at her upcoming court appearance scheduled for April 16. Under Singapore law, theft can carry severe penalties, including up to seven years in prison.
