An Aussie influencer has unleashed on the “popular” cities around the world she claims are “overrated”, “trashy” or “disgusting” — with one spot topping her hit list.
Taking to her TikTok account, Jacki, 27 — who goes by the social media handle JetsettingJacki, often posts videos highlighting tips and tricks for travellers heading to different destinations.
But one of her latest clips, which has been viewed more than 115,000 times, revealed the five cities in Europe she’d never return to, as well as the five she says should be at the top of all travel bucket lists.
“So many European destinations are hyped up excessively, but this is just my opinion,” she captioned the video.
“So 100 per cent go make your own mind up and tell me what you think! Which ones do you wanna fight me on?”
Topping the list of her most overrated city is Paris, followed by Amsterdam, Mykonos, Magaluf and the Island of Capri.
“I absolutely hate Paris,” the young traveller declared.
“I’ve been to the city three times now and I felt unsafe. It was dirty, the people weren’t very nice. I just did not enjoy my time in Paris at all and that is why it is on my overrated European places list.”
Next, the Aussie said Amsterdam was “overrated” and not anywhere near as good as “people hyped it up to be”.
“I know there are a few things that are legal there, that aren’t legal in other places, but it just didn’t make up for it,” she said.
Jacki said she “wouldn’t even bother going” to Mykonos and that it was “really expensive”, while Magaluf had her feeling very “old” and was “the trashiest, most disgusting place” she’d ever visited.
The influencer’s opinions sparked a mixed debate, with some agreeing with her while others said she’d got the list all wrong.
“Paris is under-hated (sic) and overrated,” one follower agreed, while another added they loved Paris and while “certain areas over-hyped”, it’s still a “beautiful city”.
Another said that her inclusion of Magaluf is no surprise, with it being “well known across Europe as somewhere to not go” given it is “grimy and full of under-agers”.
On the flip side, the travel influencer said Euro-lovers should pivot their sights towards places like Iceland, San Sebastian, Malta, Scandinavia and Sicily instead.
