Arts Object causes boilover in The Wave 2024

[ad_1]

It took a long range plan by trainer Kurt Goldman and a perfect steer from hoop Angela Jones to see Arts Object ($51) take out the $250,000 The Wave on the Gold Coast.

The daughter of Zoustar didn’t spend a penny in the run after jumping on terms from gate three and absolutely powered away from the field over the latter stages.

The four-year-old mare was too strong by one length over Encoder ($6), who didn’t shirk the task, with another long shot Ain’t He Grand ($21) a widening two and a quarter lengths back in third.

Goldman explained today’s victory has been a work in progress for some time.

“It was a six month plan, it was a long way out,” Goldman said.

“Brought her up here for the winter carnival and this is what we wanted.

“Set weights, four-year-old race, it was a logical race to target with a mare like this.”

Winning rider Jones is building up a nice affinity with the mare, grabbing two wins and two placings from just six steers, and Goldman was full of praise for his pilot.

“Ang has been wonderful on this mare, her record is fantastic,” Goldman said.

“She’s a little quirky at the barriers and did a few things wrong but Ang seems to get her to jump.”

Jockey Jones was grateful for Goldman’s ability to read his horse and make the appropriate gear changes.

“He’d done a super job, Kurt, with this horse,” Jones beamed.

“Took the risk of putting the visors (blinkers) on and we thought it was going to overdo it but in the end it was perfect.

“She jumped out, we got the sweetest run and she’s put her head down and went to sleep, she was travelling like nothing was going to beat her.

“She was travelling way better than she had in previous runs and I was filled with confidence.”

Whilst Goldman only has a small team in work, he has experienced Group success with the likes of Eckstein and Faust, but today’s win was more personal.

“It is very pleasing, I’ve been very lucky,” Goldman said.

“I’ve had some very good horses along the way through the years, but to own a share in the horse and to win a big race, it makes it special.”
