Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today ordered that Anusha Pelpita, a former Ministry Secretary and Director General, be remanded until February 6 following his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
Pelpita was taken into custody in connection with an investigation into allegations that he accumulated illicit assets amounting to approximately Rs. 46 million within a two-year period.
Issuing the remand order, the Magistrate stated that further investigations are required, including the recording of statements from the suspect’s wife and brother. The court also noted the possibility of the suspect influencing witnesses if released on bail at this stage.
Accordingly, the court instructed CIABOC to expedite the investigation and submit a progress report at the next hearing.
