Amila Abeysekara’s early years were spent in Kandy until his family relocated to Maharagama when he was ten years old. He is the eldest of three brothers. His educational journey began at Dharmaraja College, Kandy, and continued at President’s College, Maharagama. During his school years, he was an avid cricket player, representing his school and later playing for various clubs before transitioning into acting.

In 2010, Amila married his long-time partner Theja Jayawardena, although their marriage had been officially registered in 2004. Theja currently works as a flight attendant for Emirates airline.
