Singer Alston Koch addressed the issue of climate change in his 2008 song, ‘Can we Take This Climate Change.’
However, he found himself in a different kind of spotlight at the 150th-anniversary celebration of his alma mater, Wesley College, held at the Shangri-La in Colombo on Monday, March 11th.
Alston kicked off the show with a rendition of ‘You Raise Me Up,’ originally performed by Josh Groban and later covered by Westlife. Despite encountering technical difficulties, Alston showcased his professionalism by improvising some of the lyrics to cater to the local audience, who thoroughly enjoyed the personalized touch.
His presence illuminated the event, and President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the guest of honor, further honored Alston by inviting him onstage to address the gathering.
President Wickremesinghe expressed his delight at being part of the 150th anniversary celebrations and extended gratitude on behalf of the nation. He specifically acknowledged Alston’s presence, emphasizing his connection to Wesley College and the significance of his attendance.
Alston concluded the evening’s festivities with a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s ‘Love’s Been Good To Me,’ once again showcasing his unique style and talent.
