Officials from the Afghanistan Cricket Board confirmed on Tuesday that their upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka, originally scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates, has been postponed due to the ongoing military tensions involving USA, Israel, and Iran. The series was set to include three ODIs and three T20Is from 13 to 25 March.
“Indeed, the series against Sri Lanka has been postponed,” Naseeb Khan told Cricbuzz. “We faced multiple challenges with flights, logistics, and the overall situation in the region.”
He added that the board explored relocating the series to Sri Lanka and stayed in constant communication with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, but no flights were available from the UAE to Sri Lanka at the required time.
“Additionally, arranging stadiums, hotels, security, and other production requirements on such short notice proved extremely difficult. As a result, postponement was the only viable option,” Khan explained.
He confirmed that the series is now expected to take place in the final quarter of this year.
The T20I leg of the series was meant to mark the start of Ibrahim Zadran’s captaincy in the shortest format, following his recent appointment as T20I captain, replacing Rashid Khan.
