Sri Lanka’s young golfing talent took center stage on May 23 at the HSBC Future Lions Golf Awards, hosted by the Junior Golf Development Sub Committee in collaboration with HSBC and Sri Lanka Golf. The event celebrated the achievements of the country’s most promising junior golfers, with Mark Surgenor, CEO of HSBC Sri Lanka, Ranil Peiris, President of Sri Lanka Golf, and Niloo Jayatilake, Chairperson of the Junior Golf subcommittee, among those in attendance.
Adithya Weerasinghe, a rising golf star from Anuradhapura, was honored as the national winner of the “best of the best” category. Having progressed from local roots to representing Sri Lanka internationally in tournaments in India and Hong Kong, Adithya’s journey is a testament to the success of the HSBC Future Lions Golf programme.
Launched in 2017, the programme has introduced over 2,000 young players to golf, with over 600 advancing to specialized training. In its third edition, more than 300 boys and girls aged 9–12 were recognized not only for their skills on the green but also for their discipline, sportsmanship, and dedication.
With training hubs in remote areas like Anuradhapura, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Welisara, HSBC Future Lions continues to promote inclusivity and nurture the next generation of golfers in Sri Lanka. HSBC’s global commitment to grassroots golf development shines through in this initiative, reflecting the bank’s passion for fostering young talent around the world.
