The Legacy Continues
Arun Chauhan, the visionary behind Shiva Indian Cuisine, has dedicated over three decades to perfecting his craft. Originating from northern India, Arun brought his expertise from the Taj group of hotels to Australia in 1982. After an initial stint in Geelong and Melbourne’s India House restaurant, Arun founded Shiva Indian Cuisine in Fitzroy in 1987. With a pioneering open kitchen concept introduced at 530 Malvern Road, Prahran, in 1988, Arun set a new standard for Indian restaurants in Australia.
Arun’s journey from a one-man show to a thriving culinary establishment is inspiring. Initially managing every aspect of the restaurant alone, Arun was later joined by a dedicated Chinese assistant who worked alongside him for sixteen years. In 2002, Sachin Garg, Arun’s godson, joined the team and significantly expanded the business. Under Sachin’s leadership, Shiva Indian Cuisine added several food trucks and established the upscale catering service, SG Catering, from the same premises.
Sachin has propelled Shiva Indian Cuisine to new heights by introducing their culinary excellence to major events such as the Grand Prix, Moto GP, Royal Melbourne Show, Avalon Air Show, Moomba Festival, MCG, and the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, making Indian food a staple at these prestigious gatherings.
