A/L exam break ends as schools reopen tomorrow

The Ministry of Education has announced that the second segment of the first school term for the 2026 academic year will begin tomorrow (January 21) in all government and government-approved private schools across Sri Lanka.

The initial phase of the first term was held from January 5 to 9, after which schools were temporarily shut from January 10 to January 20 to allow for the completion of postponed G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examinations. These exams had been rescheduled following disruptions caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

According to the Ministry of Education, the newly resumed phase of the first term will run until February 13, 2026. Schools will then close again from February 14 to March 2 to facilitate the conduct of the 2025 G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examinations.
