Canadian Tennis Update: Mboko Progresses, Auger-Aliassime Eliminated in Miami

Victoria Mboko of Canada secured a hard-fought victory on Monday at the Miami Open, defeating Russia’s Mirra Andreeva 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-0 to reach the quarterfinals. The 19-year-old, seeded 10th in the tournament, served six aces but also committed seven double faults, converting just one of six break-point opportunities. Despite these challenges, Mboko won 77.8% of her first-serve points in the two-hour-and-17-minute women’s singles match. She is set to face Karolina Muchova of Czechia in Tuesday’s quarterfinal.

Andreeva, 18, seeded eighth, recorded six aces against two double faults and managed to break once in four attempts. She won 66.7% of her first-serve points but ultimately fell in three sets.

In the men’s singles draw, Montreal’s Félix Auger-Aliassime was eliminated in the third round after a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 loss to France’s Terence Atmane. The seventh-seeded Canadian hit 11 aces and 26 winners but was unable to maintain momentum in the decisive set, as Atmane won three consecutive games to break a 2-2 tie and close out the match two games later.

The results highlight Mboko’s rise in women’s tennis while Auger-Aliassime’s early exit underscores the competitive depth of the Miami Open men’s draw.
