Pathum Nissanka Rises to Third Spot in Latest T20I Rankings

Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka has surged to third place in the latest ICC Men’s T20I rankings, following a sensational century against Australia in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Nissanka’s rise comes after a breathtaking innings in Sri Lanka’s Group B clash in Kandy on Monday (February 16), where he smashed an unbeaten 100 off just 52 balls to guide his side to a commanding eight-wicket victory while chasing a target of 182. The win also confirmed Sri Lanka’s place in the Super Eights stage of the tournament.

The right-hander’s innings was packed with authority and precision, featuring five sixes and ten boundaries, as he dominated the Australian bowling attack. His performance not only turned the match decisively in Sri Lanka’s favour but also marked a historic milestone.

Nissanka became the first player to score a century at the 2026 T20 World Cup, and with this knock, he also became the first Sri Lankan batter to register two T20I centuries, further cementing his status as one of the most consistent performers in the shortest format.

As a result of his standout display, Nissanka climbed three places in the rankings, moving to third with 786 rating points, overtaking India’s Tilak Varma and Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan.

India’s Abhishek Sharma continues to lead the T20I batting rankings with 891 points, while England opener Phil Salt holds the second position.

Nissanka’s rise reflects his growing influence at the international level and provides a major boost for Sri Lanka as they continue their World Cup campaign with renewed confidence and momentum.
