Ford Issues Urgent Recall for 2022 Ranger and Everest Over Safety Risk
Ford Motor Company Australia has announced an urgent recall affecting 2022 Ford Ranger – 2022 model vehicles, along with the related Ford Everest – 2022 model, due to a potentially dangerous software defect that could endanger drivers and passengers.
The recall, registered with the Department of Infrastructure and Transport, involves 244 vehicles that require immediate attention at authorized Ford dealerships for free repairs. A software fault may cause the vehicle’s transmission to unexpectedly shift into park when driving at low speeds, particularly if the battery drops below a critical level.
Ford warned that this issue could result in sudden stops without activating the brake lights, significantly increasing the risk of collisions and injury. A similar recall was previously issued in 2023, covering 4,841 models from 2012 to 2024. The company emphasized that vehicles repaired under the earlier notice must still be serviced again under this recall.
Affected owners will receive written instructions from Ford to schedule an appointment for the repair. For assistance, customers can contact the Ford Customer Relationship Centre at 133 673.
The Ford Ranger remains one of Australia’s top-selling vehicles, consistently leading new car sales in 2024 and 2025 with over 100,000 units sold annually.
